The purpose of this article is to suggest that a newly rediscovered painting, Medea Restoring Aeson’s Youth, which was recently acquired at auction by a private collector, is almost certainly another mythological picture which Poussin either painted during his still largely undocumented years in Paris, Lyon and Florence before 1622 or, more likely, was painted in Paris between the summer of 1622 and the artist’s departure for Rome in 1624, when he was kept in Paris by a number of unfinished commissions, and he would have needed to sell some of his work to pay the expenses for the expensive journey to Rome.
