LUCA BARONI - Two New Early Drawings by Federico Barocci in the Louvre and in the British Museum, pp. 165–178
The attribution of two new drawings to Federico Barocci, preserved in the Louvre and the British Museum and connected to works executed between 1556 and 1558 respectively, provides new knowledge pertaining to the artist’s early drawing practices. These drawings also demonstrate his attention to the work of other artists, such as his master Battista Franco, and Sebastiano del Piombo. This essay includes an unpublished note by A. E. Popham, Curator of the Prints and Drawings Department of the British Museum in the 1940s and 1950s, which anticipated the identification of one of the two drawings as by Barocci.
